Programme objective
Urban and Regional planning is a training field in urban and rural construction planning, aiming to organize or orient the organization of regional space, urban space, residential areas, and technical infrastructure systems, and social infrastructure, creating a good living environment for people.
In the Urban and Regional Planning degree program, students will develop applied research and analysis skills through drafting in studio practice, teamwork, and field trips and can choose to pursue an international exchange program.
Graduated students can reach an understanding of communities’ needs, regional and urban structures, and rules and are ready to work on urban and regional planning decisions related to social, economic, environmental, cultural, land transportation, and development.

The department focuses on teaching and research in the following areas:
- Land use evaluation and planning for urban and regional areas.
- Real estate market analysis in urban areas. Urban management, Urban policy
- Conservation of wetland ecosystems and forest trees in urban areas.
- Integrated management of land resources, Seagrass research and management
- Landscape designing, Urban landscape, Coastal urban ecology
- Applications of IT, GIS, GPS, Remote sensing in Urban and Regional planning, land resources, cadastral mapping, urban and rural land use planning, landscape design, and urban management.
Job opportunities
- Regional and urban planning engineers can work in various positions (such as specialist, expert, consultant/designer/manager, lecturer, researcher, technician, etc.) in public and private organizations related to regional and urban planning and management, including following jobs:
- Developing master plans, specialized plans, and urban spatial plans: Working in state agencies and enterprises (e.g., Department of Construction, Department of Planning and Architecture, urban management offices at district/precinct levels, urban service companies, Urban Planning Institutes, national or provincial/city planning centers, etc.).
- Consulting and designing urban spatial architecture and building architecture: Working in state agencies and private architectural and urban planning design consulting firms (both domestic and international).
- Urban construction planning management at urban management offices or construction departments at district, commune, and town levels, and city-level planning and architecture departments. This involves designing and implementing specific planning documents for construction investment projects.
- Researching and teaching in the fields of urban planning and design and landscape design: Working at domestic and international institutes, universities, and international organizations.
