The 3rd International Conference on Geography and Geoinformatics for Sustainable Development (ICGGS 2023) was held at Can Tho University

Within the framework of the collaboration between the Department of Land Resources, College of Environment and Natural Resources, Can Tho University, Vietnam, and the Department of Geography, Faculty of Social Sciences, Srinakharinwirot University, Thailand, the 3rd International Conference on Geography and Geoinformatics for sustainable development (ICGGS 2023) was organized on the 4th floor of the Learning Resource Center, Can Tho University, from November 30th to December 2nd, 2023. The objective of the ICGGS 2023 is to provide a platform for scholars worldwide to engage in various issues spanning from Resources and Environment, Socio-Economics, Applications, and Geographic Information Science Education. Subsequently, it aims to explore the development of advancements in geoinformatics technology and its impact on planning and solutions to serve sustainable development, particularly in the increasingly complex context of climate change.

In the opening speech, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Hieu Trung, Vice Rector of Can Tho University, highly values the importance of the 3rd International Conference on Geography and Geoinformatics for sustainable development (ICGGS 2023). The workshop serves as a platform for scholars worldwide to engage in significant issues, ranging from the management of natural resources and the environment to various socio-economic aspects, geographic information science applications, and education. Its purpose is to explore advancements in geographic information technology to address numerous global challenges.

After the opening speech from Can Tho University, representatives from Srinakharinwirot University (SWU), Thailand, Assist. Prof. Dr. Chomchanok Arunplod delivered a welcoming address to delegates from many countries attending the ICGGS 2023 workshop. At the same time, Assist. Prof. Dr. Chomchanok Arunplod expressed sincere gratitude to the Department of Land Resources, Faculty of Environment and Natural Resources, Can Tho University, for the enthusiastic collaboration in organizing the ICGGS 2023 workshop.

After the opening speeches by representatives from the two universities, the workshop received keynote presentations from four scientists representing different countries: Vietnam, Thailand, China, and Taiwan. The presentations focused on the application of Geographic Information System (GIS) technology in various fields to contribute to the sustainable development of the Asian region. Following that, the workshop was divided into several specialized sessions for in-depth discussions, including Climate Change and Natural Resources (Session 1 with 12 presentations), Geoinformatics Applications in Environmental Management (Session 2 with 6 presentations), and Environmental Dynamics and Energy (Session 3 with 6 presentations).

Concluding after two days of work, the 3rd International Workshop on Geoinformatics for Sustainable Development (ICGGS 2023) acknowledged the participation of over 80 delegates, including experts and scientists from both domestic and international backgrounds. All scholars and scientists who attended contributed to the success of the conference. The organizing committee acknowledges the valuable contributions and insights from the delegates, wishing all delegates good health, happiness, and success.
